Your Indoor Grow Tent Setup Journey: What You Need, and Setting Up the Space
Setting up a grow tent is a great alternative not only to growing outside, but to establishing a grow room. Grow tents are easier to set up and easier and generally more cost-effective to regulate than grow rooms, and the obvious benefits of growing indoors are that you’ll enjoy much more precise control over conditions, plus a year-round growing season.
With that said, let’s get started with basic setup.
Choosing a Space
Where you set up your grow tent is a matter that should take some attention and planning. It should be an area in your home that’s out of the way, that’s large enough to house the grow tent (or tents) you plan to set up, and it should be relatively temperature stable. If it’s in an area that’s consistently too hot or too cold, you’ll be fighting against the conditions in the space.
It should also be out of the way, since grow tents can be large and take a good amount of space. Keeping it out of the way is not only discreet but will also be more convenient for your living conditions.
Closets and other small rooms can be great, because it is easier to maintain the temperature in a smaller space than it is in a larger room; closets and small rooms can also be closed off, controlling scents.
Also, the fact that it’s dark in a closet won’t matter since you’ll be supplying the plant with electric LED grow lights on a specific timer.
Make sure you measure the space to ensure that your grow tent will fit in it and that there is clearance around the tent for access. If you will need HVAC controls (and you likely will), make sure there is some clear area around the tent as well.
Water and Utility Access
The space you choose to set up your grow tent should also have easy access to electricity and plumbing, since the space will need to be irrigated and electricity is needed to power controllers, HVAC equipment, lights, and more.
The room you choose should have easy access to your home’s plumbing as well as electricity, ideally from the same room, but if not, you’ll need to make arrangements for that.
Choosing a Grow Tent Size
You’ll also need to choose a grow tent (or tents). Size is one of the most important considerations here as the size of the tent you choose will limit what, or how many plants, you can grow inside.
The Advance grow tents in our CLOUDLAB series are made from high-quality canvas and durable, strong steel pole construction; they also feature reengineered mylar interiors for a high-level of reflectivity to support optimal light conditions.
You also have the option of starting with a smart grow tent kit. These are available in multiple sizes and come not just with a tent, but with the LED grow lights and ventilation accessories you need to get started. They also come with AI-driven controllers that auto-adjust to ensure optimal plant health.
Choosing Fabric Pots

For those of you that will not be establishing a hydroponic system, you’ll need a container for your plants. We recommend fabric pots for several reasons.
One is convenience. Fabric pots can be collapsed and easily stored out of the way when not in use. As far as sizing, choose fabric pots that are appropriate in size for your grow tent, as well as what you’re growing.
Most importantly, fabric pots allow for effective evaporative release of excess moisture, helping to regulate growing medium conditions at ideal levels, and preventing overwatering. They also enable air pruning, helping to prevent plants from becoming rootbound, and supporting overall healthier, more fruitful plants.
Installing LED Grow Lights
For indoor growers, LED grow lights are indispensable, and outperform both incandescent and HID, or high-intensity discharge grow lights, on several counts.
LED grow lights are more energy efficient and produce almost no heat. This makes it easier to regulate the temperature within the grow tent.
In addition, LED grow lights are more reliable and last considerably longer than all other alternatives, making them a green solution, and one that will cost you less in the long run.
Our Ionframe series bar-style lights are some of the best LED grow lights in the industry; utilizing Samsung EVO LEDs with smart controls, sunrise and sunset dimming, and 10 brightness levels, they support daisy-chaining for up to 80 lights, making them configurable to nearly any indoor grow setup.
The number of LED grow lights you will need will be determined by what you are growing and how many tents you have. Naturally, plants that have greater full-sun exposure will require brighter overhead lighting and for more hours of the day.
Setting Up Essentials for Irrigation and Fertilization
Hydroponic systems are one way to grow indoors, but even with a conventional setup you will need to properly maintain the soil moisture content to ensure optimal plant health. This can be done manually, but we also carry automatic sprayers that can help with this.
You will also need appropriate fertilizers to ensure that your plant is properly nourished at each stage of growth, from when it’s a seedling, through the vegetative stage and into the flowering stage. We carry both liquid and water-soluble fertilizers to assist with this.
Temperature and Humidity Control

Maintaining the proper temperature and humidity, as well as providing adequate ventilation to provide clean, pure air to your plants, is also vital to overall health.
We carry heaters, air conditioners, ductwork, and ventilation equipment such as fans to assist with temperature and humidity control, as well as AI-powered controllers that monitor temperature, humidity and more, and which are easily remotely-controllable and offer advanced features for automation. Check out our AI climate and hydro sensors that streamline monitoring and control of temperature, humidity, VPD, pH, EC, TDS, and more, and contact us if you have any questions.
Humidity is also one element of growing conditions that is sometimes overlooked by indoor growers; we carry both powerful humidifiers and dehumidifiers that are capable of helping you maintain optimal atmospheric humidity levels. Dehumidifiers like our HYDRONE 5 and HYDRONE 7 offer powerful performance for maintaining ideal conditions, in grow tents as large as 5x5’ (HYDRONE 5) or 10x10’ (HYDRONE 7). The HYDRONE 7 is also equipped with an AI-powered VPD controller.
In any event, maintaining ideal temperature, humidity, and VPD is equally important to plant health as is providing adequate nutrients, light and water, though the individual needs of a plant are determined by the species and cultivar you are growing.
Other Growing Accessories
In addition to the essential indoor growing accessories that we carry, being grow tents, lights, pots, fertilizer, and HVAC equipment, along with advanced AI-powered controllers, we also carry a variety of other accessories that support upkeep and harvest, such as shears, ties, stakes, nets, and more. Depending on what you ultimately decide to grow, these growing accessories can make training, trimming, and harvesting easier and more productive.
Remember, Conditions Depend on What You’re Growing
At the end of the day, you need to consider much more than just the size of the grow tent you choose for indoor growing. The lighting conditions, temperature, irrigation and fertilization schedule, humidity, and other atmospheric variables can only be determined based on what you’re growing. Different plants have different needs.
