Grow Tents vs. Grow Rooms: A Basic Overview
As an indoor grower, one of the decisions you will have to make is whether you want to dedicate an entire room in your home to growing, known as a grow room, or if it would make more sense for you to invest in a high-quality grow tent that enabled you to convert any space (at least partially) into a growing space.
Here are some of the high-level considerations you should make before you decide one way or the other.
Grow Tents

Grow tents, which vary considerably in size, are one option for indoor growers. Small grow tents are only a few feet by a few feet, in which case they can fit inside small rooms and walk in closets, but there are also larger grow tents that can be 10x10 feet or even larger, so there’s a lot of flexibility here.
One of the greatest advantages with a dedicated grow tent is that the system can be effectively self contained, so you can maintain a mini climate inside the tent that is entirely separate from the overall room in which the grow tent is placed.
This gives you greater, much more precise control over the conditions within the tent, which is one of the big advantages when comparing grow tents vs. grow rooms.
Compared to grow rooms, grow tents are usually a lot more cost-effective, as well as much quicker and easier to set up. When they are not in use, they can also be disassembled and stored with relative convenience, out of the way, making them ideal for those that have space constraints.
While they technically lack the robustness of construction that a dedicated grow room would offer, there are still some high-quality grow tents out there that are made with strong frames and highly durable material that, with proper care, will last many seasons.
Also, because grow tents are generally smaller than grow rooms, it is easier to maintain controls over temperature, humidity, ambient light, and other conditions than it would be in a dedicated growing room. Usually it can also be done so more cost-effectively in a tent than in a room.

One potential drawback of grow tents compared to grow rooms is that, since tents are usually smaller, the yield will likely be smaller, too. This makes rooms better for indoor growers that produce a lot, although it does also make tents ideal for small scale growers, as well as for those that are just starting out.
Also, while grow rooms probably have the upper hand on customizability, high-quality grow tents, such as those that we sell here, are highly configurable and customizable nonetheless.
Grow Rooms
Now that we’ve covered some of the relative advantages and disadvantages of grow tents, let’s take a closer look at dedicated grow rooms, which are spaces in a home that are designated for, and set up in order to grow plants indoors.
Because it is an entire room, there is potential to make a grow room much larger than the largest commercially available grow tents. This makes grow rooms better for those who plan to take on larger scale operations. You’re less limited with a grow room than with a tent.
Since a grow room requires you to convert an existing room in your home (unless you’re adding a new one, which is also a possibility), it is a more customizable option. You can configure every aspect of heating, cooling, ventilation, humidity control, and ambient lighting, just the way you like.
A grow room can potentially offer better control over climatic conditions, but at the same time, because the space is larger, unless you are very precise with your insulation and the rest of the rooms features, it can be more challenging to precisely maintain a whole room.
In addition, setting up and maintaining a whole grow room is usually considerably more expensive than a grow tent, and on top of it, it takes a lot more time to set it up. Costs associated with lighting, heating, and cooling an entire room will also probably be higher.
Another potential disadvantage of grow rooms, although it’s a relative one, is that grow rooms are necessarily less discreet than tents.
Which Is for You?
Ultimately, it’s not that one of these is better than the other. For some growers, a dedicated room makes more sense; for others, grow tents offer the convenience and control necessary for the scale of their operations. What’s important is that you choose the option that works for you.
